Fonts
Palmer Signs and Graphics mainly uses Bitstream fonts. All other fonts must be made into
outlines using the appropriate software. If you have any questions about using fonts, please contact us before submission.

Standard Spot Colour
The standard colours of BLUE, GREEN, RED and BLACK are the only
colours available in standard spot colour signs. In white knockout signs YELLOW
is also available. Colours cannot be mixed to create additional
colours. Colour components may butt up to one another but not overlap. Spot
colours must be defined using these CMYK values:
|
BLUE |
100% cyan |
|
GREEN |
100% cyan and 80% yellow |
|
RED |
100% magenta and 80% yellow |
|
YELLOW |
100% yellow |
No other colours may be used. Spot colours and tints must not be overlaid to
create additional colour schemes. Blends/vignettes using two or more spot
colours is unacceptable.Process Colour
Process colour allows clients to use full colour photographs as well
as custom colours created by mixing process colours Cyan, Magenta, Yellow
and Black (CMYK). If you intend to use a Pantone (PMS) colour, we suggest
you find the closest match in a CMYK value that does not exceed the 220%
inkload restriction. We do not guarantee an accurate representation
of Pantone (PMS) colours as CMYK printing methods can only achieve a maximum
of 35% colour consistency with the Pantone System.
If you have any questions about using colour please contact
us
before submission.

Palmer Signs and Graphics accepts the following file formats:
The following formats must be
supplied as specified.
Adobe Photoshop PSD, Adobe Photoshop EPS: These files must be
supplied to size and to the appropriate resolutions. Try to avoid setting
entire signs in Photoshop, especially larger sizes. We recommend that Photoshop files
be supplied in layers. Type will need to be rendered.
- Images with text (such as logos or entire signs) must be supplied at
400dpi. (It is preferred that logos and body text be done in vector format
to achieve best results)
- Photos must be supplied at 300dpi.
- Due to our specialised printing, we prefer colour files supplied in RGB even if we output to CMYK. Grayscale is acceptable if the image is for
a black and white or spot colour signs.
Adobe Illustrator AI and EPS, and Coreldraw: Avoid using
features such as transparencies, mesh, masks and other complicated effects
as they can cause printing problems.
- Fonts not supported by us must be outlined (or made into curves).
- Linked and embedded images must be supplied to the correct
resolutions. If the images are going to be enlarged, please make sure the
resolution is correct.
- Overprinting must be removed.
- Artwork must be saved in CMYK or Spot colour.
JPEG/JPG & Digital Camera Photos: All JPEG/JPG files must be supplied
at high quality and at 300dpi. For digital camera photos, please use the
highest quality setting the camera can take. Submit the original unmodified
file to us. We do not recommend using compression when saving
JPEG/JPG files. We do not accept any logos or text saved in JPEG
format, as printing quality is poor due to JPEG/JPG file structure.
PDF Files: If supplying PDF files, please remember that we
convert these files to Illustrator or Photoshop format. When saving any PDF files, please make sure the file is
saved for Acrobat 5 and all editing capabilities are preserved.
When using compression, save all colour & grayscale bitmap images to an
average downloading sample of 400dpi. For monochrome, use a downloading
sample of 1200dpi. 8bit zip compression is preferred, any other compression
will not be accepted. We do not recommend using any security features.
When dealing with fonts, please ensure to outline all fonts not supported by
us. We only work with
supported fonts and all other fonts
will need to be outlined. Embedding fonts will not work, as we do not
directly output PDF files.

We do not accept the following file formats:
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) & Works (WPS): These
programs are not intended for professional printing and will not reproduce
correctly with our specialised printing.
Microsoft Publisher: Due to program restrictions and compatibility
issues, Publisher files do not convert correctly and are not compatible with
our specialised printing.
GIF, BMP, PNG, SVG, PICT, MIX & PCX: Most of these files are designed
for the Internet or screen usage and are not suitable for the print
environment. They will reproduce with poor results.
Visio: Visio was not intended for professional printing and due to
the nature of the program, does not convert to an acceptable format.

Customer Responsibility
Please ensure you supply an accurate printout of the layout if supplying on
disk, or a low quality JPEG/JPG or PDF file if supplying via email. Final
responsibility for the quality and suitability of all electronic files rests
with the customer or agent. Palmer Signs & Graphics will not accept or
process files that are not compatible with its production environment or
those indicated on this document. Electronic artwork supplied using
incorrect file formats or construction methods will be returned to the
customer for correction.
